How do you say “I Love You” in Japanese like a NATIVE Speaker?

愛(あい)してる　Aishiteru

“I love you” is translated into “愛(あい)してる” in Japanese.

愛(あい) means “love.”

Japanese people rarely say this word because it is a huge word.

You do not really even hear it in romantic movies or novels.

好(す)きだよ　Sukidayo

Instead of “愛(あい)してる,” many people say this phrase, “好(す)きだよ.”

好(す)き means “like,” and 好(す)きだよ is “I like you.”

Many of you might think that Japanese people should say “I love you” to someone they love.

But, honestly, I feel like 好(す)きだよ is more than “I like you,” and it is pretty enough to express your love.

好(す)き means “like,” and you can say this to anything you like.

For example,

・ディズニーランドが 好(す)きです。
I like Disneyland.

・チョコレートが 好(す)きです。
I like chocolate.

大好(だいす)きだよ　Daisuki dayo

大好(だいす)き means “really like somebody or something.”

大(だい) means “big,” so you can easily guess 大好(だいす)き is a “big like.”
