3 ways to say “How are you?” in Japanese like a Native Speaker
元気(げんき)ですか? Genkidesuka?
When we ask someone how they are doing, we ask, “元気(げんき)ですか?”
More frankly : 元気(げんき)? Genki?
More politely : お元気(げんき)ですか? Ogenkidesuka?
Example sentence
A:元気(げんき)ですか?
B:とても元気(げんき)です!A:How are you doing?
B:I am good!
A: 元気(げんき)?
B: うん、今日(きょう)は天気(てんき)もいいから、気分(きぶん)も良(い)いね。A: What’s up!
B: I’m good, and I feel so great because the weather is fine.
Natural conversation with using “How are you?”👇
調子(ちょうし)はどう? Choushi wa dou?
調子(ちょうし) = condition
どう? = どうですか? = How is ~?
How is your condition? = How are you?
Example sentence
A:マサ!調子(ちょうし)はどう?
B:いいよ!君(きみ)は?A:Hi, Masa! How are you doing?
B:I’m good! You?
A:お久しぶりです、最近(さいきん)調子(ちょうし)はどうですか?

Sometimes the word “調子(ちょうし)は” is omitted, and the phrase “最近(さいきん)どう?” is used.
A:最近(さいきん)どう?
B:仕事(しごと)がとても忙(いそが)しいんだ。A:How are you doing lately?
B:I am very busy at work.
ご機嫌(きげん)いかがですか? Gokigen ikagadesuka?
ご機嫌(きげん)いかがですか? is a more polite way of saying it than the two above.

B:Very good. And you?
