And when you find your friend getting a haircut, you will say, “you had a haircut!” or “Did you get a haircut?”

髪(かみ)を切(き)りました = I had my hair cut

(かみ) = hair
() = cut

()りました is the formal and past tense.
切(き)った is the casual and past tense.

Example Sentence (casual)

A:髪(かみ)()ったよ
B:似合(にあ)ってるね!

AI had my hair cut.
BIt looks good on you.

A:髪(かみ)切(き)りたいな〜。
B:いい美容院(びよういん)知(し)ってるよ!

Hair salon = 美容院(びよういん) or 散髪(さんぱつ)屋(や)さん.

美容院(びよういん) is a more fancy place that ladies often go. (Of course, gentlemen go too.)

散髪(さんぱつ)屋(や)さん is cheaper than 美容院(びよういん) and has simple menu. (Only cuts and shaves.)

 ~に髪(かみ)を切(き)ってもらった。  I got my haircut by ~

You can say this when you say “who” cut your hair.

お母(かあ)さんに髪(かみ)を切(き)ってもらった。
I had my haircut by my mother.

美容師(びようし)に髪(かみ)を切(き)ってもらった。
I had my haircut by a hairstylist.

友達(ともだち)に髪(かみ)を切(き)ってもらった。
I had my haircut by my friend.

Example Sentence (casual)

A:誰(だれ)に髪(かみ)を切(き)ってもらったの?
B:お母(かあ)さんに切()ってもらったよ。
A:似合(にあ)ってないよ。。。

A:Who cut your hair?
BMy mom did.
A:It does not look good on you…

A:インスタで有名(ゆうめい)な美容師(びようし)に髪(かみ)を切(き)ってもらった!

Summary

(かみ)を切()りました = I had my haircut
~に髪(かみ)を切(き)ってもらった = I got my haircut by ~

髪(かみ)を切(き)りました is an active voice, so it sounds like “I cut my hair.”
But, it means “I had my haircut.”
